Terrae, the poetry of matter

Aesthetic cross-contaminations between rationality and innovation

Mirage

There are materials that carry stories layered over time, capable of transforming into architecture and design.

Earth is one of them: a primordial element, the root of every construction, a living matter that changes through light and gesture.
From this essence comes Terrae, the new Atelier Mirage collection developed with AMDL CIRCLE, which will be presented at Milan Design Week 2025.

"We imagined using earth the way a sculptor does in their atelier, shaping the material until it comes alive with light and shadow." — Angelo Micheli, Managing Director, AMDL CIRCLE

In Terrae, light takes center stage: it doesn’t simply rest on the ceramic surface—it passes through it, creating unexpected plays of shadow.

Design explores three-dimensionality, with reliefs that emerge or fade depending on the perspective, and textures that reveal themselves in dialogue with the surrounding space.
The idea of decoration becomes a narrative language, beyond mere ornament.

"Today, everything is decoration—even a white wall—because decoration is a sign, a message, a code that distinguishes and tells a story."
— Michele De Lucchi, Founder, AMDL CIRCLE

In Terrae, decoration is a precise and sincere engraving, a rhythm that flows across the surface without weighing it down. The textures intertwine, creating ever-changing surfaces that respond to the surrounding space.

But Terrae is more than just a collection.
It is a reflection on material, on time, on the ability of design to evoke primal emotions.
It is a project that moves between innovation and memory, industrialization and craftsmanship.

"Porcelain stoneware can be seen both as an industrial, mass-produced object and as a highly artisanal one. The connection to classical ceramic craftsmanship is very strong."
— Alberto Nason, Product Designer, AMDL CIRCLE

The collection unfolds in three interpretations of material.
Atmo pays tribute to the tradition of ceramic tiles, with graphic reliefs that emerge depending on the angle of light.
Idro is inspired by the fluidity of water: light decorative details, enhanced by ton-sur-ton shades, evoke the effect of rain on matter.

And then there is Lito, the most sculptural heart of the collection.

Here, ceramic abandons its traditional two-dimensional nature and becomes volume, structure, architecture.

The three-dimensional modules reinterpret the art of moucharabieh, forming ethereal walls that filter light and create plays of transparency.

The collaboration between Mirage and AMDL CIRCLE stems from the desire to unite two complementary languages: ceramic craftsmanship and architectural vision.

An open, multidisciplinary dialogue, built on the value of cross-pollination and diversity.
Terrae is a journey between substance and lightness, between presence and absence. An invitation to rediscover the poetic power of matter.

"At AMDL CIRCLE, just like at Mirage, teams are made up of people with different backgrounds. It is the earth itself that unites us—the one we each carry under our shoes."
— Emanuele Maria Novembre, Architect and Designer, AMDL CIRCLE
