Tales of Cersaie

All the details from the 41st edition

Mirage

From September 23 to 27, 2024, our journey took us to Bologna for the 41st edition of the International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings

It was an opportunity to showcase our creations up close and allow you to experience firsthand the quality, dedication, and creativity that define our products. But that’s not all—Cersaie was full of surprises, including winning the ADI Ceramics&Bathroom Design Award. On the award's tenth anniversary, it recognized the excellence of Nagomi, our collection created in collaboration with designer and architect Hadi Teherani. The Industrial Design Association honored the extensive creative research and significant technological innovation behind Nagomi. The collection incorporates 20% post-consumer recycled glass from cathode-ray tubes of old televisions and monitors. For this reason, the Nagomi project emphasizes sustainability, a theme that is increasingly central to the ceramic industry.

Sustainability as a Core Principle

Innovative materials, processes that prioritize responsible resource use, and respect for the environment and the people who inhabit it—these are the pillars upon which we have built our commitment to research. We have always worked to establish virtuous cycles of eco-design, fully aware of the need to embrace change by actively participating in it.

In this context, ReSource is our most ambitious project, born from a desire to reimagine porcelain stoneware by giving new life to pre-consumer production waste.

Cersaie 2024 allowed us to showcase our innovative mixture composition live: 48.6% raw production waste, 39.8% natural material, and 11.6% fired waste come together to reach a revolutionary percentage: 60.2% pre-consumer recycled content.

But there’s more: for the ReSource line, we optimized tile thickness to 8 mm. This seemingly small choice significantly reduces the environmental impact of production and transport, with lower resource usage, more efficient energy consumption, and a notable reduction in CO2 emissions.

Mirage
ReSource is therefore the Mirage brand that adopts a production model inspired by natural balance, where nothing is wasted and every element finds new life.

The research behind ReSource has led to the creation of two collections, resilient and adaptable to various environments, both indoor and outdoor, different in character but united by a refined and versatile aesthetic: ReStone & ReConcrete.

ReStone
The aesthetic of ReStone is inspired by a blend between Limestone and Chauvigny Stone, a limestone extracted in the Vienne region. This collection, with its timeless appeal, draws inspiration from the vast sandy expanses of the planet, evolving over millennia without ever losing its essence, captured in every grain. ReStone reproduces the chromatic complexity of these ageless lands, rendered in a marbled texture with subtle, unobtrusive veining.

ReConcrete
ReConcrete is a modern reinterpretation of smoothed cement, a material that continues to influence contemporary design with its versatility and minimalist yet bold character. Inspired by ‘industrial chic’ and ‘modern luxury’ trends, ReConcrete meets the growing demand for formal purity, enhancing the three-dimensionality of elements it interacts with in the space.

A Symphony of Nature and Artifice in Plumage x Alfonso Femia

Inspired by the complex elegance of feathers, a symbol of the technical and aesthetic perfection inherent in nature, Alfonso Femia signs this collection that offers a refined narrative, much like the lightness of falling feathers carried by the wind. Plumage celebrates craftsmanship and technological innovation with textures that evoke both carefreeness and complexity.

Discovering the Wild Side with Indomita x Letizia Ballotti

The beauty of an environment is not limited to aesthetics alone, but also refers to the sensations it evokes and the experiences it brings to life. From this awareness, Indomita was born, a collection inspired by the strength and charm of wild animals. Created in collaboration with the Emilia-based artist and upcycler Letizia Ballotti, Indomita enriches spaces, infusing them with positivity and hope. Elements inspired by the animal kingdom intertwine with vibrant and dynamic textures, creating a perfect balance with Positive Eyes, a series of stylized eyes that invite one to observe the world from a new, bolder, stronger, and more conscious perspective.

Material as Language

In the world of contemporary ceramic design, the material element is not solely linked to its original function but transforms into an expressive medium, a vehicle for narratives. This characteristic becomes even more evident for materials of natural origin, such as wood and stone, marked by the passage of time. In collections like Izumi and Onyce, Mirage explores the dialectic between the natural and the artificial.

Onyce: Refinement with Timeless Charm

The collection pays homage to onyx, a material that has been universally appreciated for its opulent yet elegant character for centuries. With the luster of LUX finishes and an aesthetic that enhances the chromatic complexity of the stone it is inspired by, Onyce is designed for sophisticated environments that showcase a smart combination of luxury and functionality.

Izumi: The Embrace of Oak

The harmony and beauty of natural wood are recognizable in Izumi, the porcelain stoneware interpretation of oak. The name of the collection, which translates to 'spring,' evokes concepts of purity and renewal, essential in the product design. Designed to warm up the environment, Izumi is offered in three different versions: from the clean and modern surface to one rich in knots and cracks for a more realistic appearance.

Cersaie has once again proven to be a fundamental opportunity to meet and explore new possibilities together. We are more than ready to embrace new challenges and accompany you on the next leg of our journey, with many more surprising moments ahead.
