We have recently released our latest Life Cycle Assessment, a comprehensive study that assesses the environmental impact of our surfaces over their entire life cycle. The results have been translated into three Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), each thoroughly verified by an independent third party and now accessible on our website.

This latest study of our surfaces exemplifies our continued dedication to responsible innovation.

In fact, the new EPDs underscore our commitment to promoting sustainable consumption and are the result of technological advancements and production enhancements undertaken some time ago, which have enabled us to continuously improve energy efficiency and significantly minimise the environmental footprint of our products.

In comparison to previous EPDs, there has been a notable reduction of 36% in CO2 emissions per square metre produced. When compared to the average for the entire ceramics sector, this corresponds to a 29% reduction in CO2 emissions per square metre.

To put this into perspective and make it even clearer, this equates to 57,085 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved annually. This reduction is equivalent to the annual emissions of 10,014 Italians or the annual carbon absorption capacity of 2,718,333 trees.

What is an EPD?

An EPD, or Environmental Product Declaration, is a comprehensive document that offers the most reliable information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire lifecycle. Our EPDs comply with international standards and provide consumers with accurate data on resource use, greenhouse gas emissions and other significant environmental impacts.

From one EPD (average) to three EPDs (specific)

To provide customers with more detailed and precise information, we now offer specific EPDs for each product thickness: 6 mm, 9 mm and 20 mm.

GWP* (A1-3):
• 6 mm thickness: 5.90 kg of CO2-eq./m2
• 9 mm thickness: 8.30 kg of CO2-eq./m2
• 20 mm thickness: 17.2 kg of CO2-eq./m2

*GWP: in the context of an EPD, Global Warming Potential (GWP) refers to the warming potential associated with a specific product. In other words, it signifies the total impact of greenhouse gas emissions associated with a product, expressed in kilograms of CO2-equivalent.

*A1-3: stages in the life cycle of a product, starting with the extraction and supply of the raw materials (A1), then transporting them to the manufacturing plant (A2), and finally manufacturing the product itself (A3).

*CO2-eq.: a unit of measurement that expresses the global warming potential of all greenhouse gas emissions by converting them into an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide (CO2).

These EPDs comply with the EN 15804+A2 and ISO 14025 standards and play a crucial role in obtaining LEED® certification credits for sustainable building projects.
